How is TobaccoAcademy organised?
The curriculum is developed under four main themes: health, economics, tobacco industry and policy. Each theme contains:- a series of self-contained modules, with a personal learning plan and defined learning outcomes.
- recommended reading and collections of key resources to aid discovery
- graphics and animations with sound illustrating key concepts
- self-assessment exercises measuring basic understanding
How much study time will I need?
Each of the four themes takes an estimated 20 hours of study, completed over 4 weeks. Students can fit their study around their daily life. Study time is divided between reading course materials and undertaking private study.How long is the course?
Students can opt to study an individual theme, or take the entire course.Individual themes can be completed part-time in one 4-week term (total: 20 hours of study)
The entire course can be completed part-time in two 8-week semesters (total: 80 hours of study).
When does the course run in 2006-2007?
Two 8-week semesters are set for the 2006-2007 academic year.- Fall: 9 October 2006 – 1 December 2006
- Term 1: 9 October 2006 – 3 November 2006
- Term 2: 6 November – 1 December 2006
- Spring: 12 February 2007 – 6 April 2007
- Term 1: 12 February 2007– 9 March 2007
- Term 2: 12 March 2007– 6 April 2007
How does TobaccoAcademy work?
- Students apply electronically
- Applications are assessed and a start date assigned
- All members of a class begin the course on the same day
- Students can opt to study individual themes, or take the entire course
Is the course accredited?
Students taking the entire course will have completed the equivalent of a certificate-level professional qualification in tobacco control. Accreditation for TobaccoAcademy is currently being developed and is expected to be in place by the time the first group of students graduates in Spring 2007.What are the technical requirements?
