TobaccoAcademy was launched in July 2006 with financial support from the Rockefeller Foundation and the UK-based family foundation, the Ajahma Trust. In 2007, the course has core funding from the French National Cancer Institute.
Development of course materials was carried out in collaboration with the British Medical Association Tobacco Control Resource Centre, The International Union Against Cancer (UICC), International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), The Framework Convention Alliance (FCA), and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (TFK). Certain content is provided with the cooperation of the American Cancer Society (ACS), Johns Hopkins School of Public Health (JHSPH), The World Bank and The World Health Organization (WHO).
